I had a nice long talk with my mother tonight. We've had issues since I came out but slowly it's all been working out. Apparently since I gave her the okay to start talking to the extendend family about me communication has actually improved. One of her brothers is now talking to her about the real reasons he is having marriage problems, which is because of issues with sexual orientation his wife has. I had a talk with our mayor about his objection to including sexual orientation and gender identity in the city's nondiscrimination ordination and she has gone from being timid to "You know what, include me in your editorial I've been around long enough I just don't care what they think".
Coming out on the family front has been very difficult but is completely worth it. I didn't think it would be but I'm so happy to see that my honesty has tightened the relationship of my extend family as well. The issues has gone from "how will explain this?" to "If he gives you any #%@* he's a dead man. I hope many of you stick through the family issues, I know it's not always possible but sometimes it can totally be worth it.
On a side note, today I decided to take a nice motorcycle ride out of town, on my way home I decided to run some errand. Keep in mind I'm still in work apparel+motorcycle gear and the lady behind me at the checkout line said "SHE can use my card if there is a discount". This made my day, I've gone from being called SIR while in a dress to being calld SHE in full motorcycle apparel.
I came out to another co-worker friday and it was no issues at all, I'm hoping to be more out as the year goes on but I'm being careful not to make premature deadlines

Re: I'm happy
Tue, October 20, 2009 - 5:37 PMIt's always nice to get reinforcement from
society about the truth of our soul.
about 15% of the time, even though
I usually have facial hair, I still get called
"miss"...it makes my day...
the truth of one's soul will out...
guess it's hard to hide
:)
